Black Pepper

Black Pepper (Piper Nigrum, मरिची in Sanskrit, काली मिर्चin Hindi) (V- P+ K-):                                                                                                                     The other names are Gulmirch and Maricha (which means Sun, as this has large amount of Solar Energy inherent in it. It can freely be used in many ways such as sprinkling on Fruits, Salads, Daal (Pulses, Curries and so on…                                 It is Bitter & Pungent in taste. ‘Virya’ is Heating. ‘Vipaka’ is also pungent. It is Light and Penetrating. 

Bio-Chemically, it consists of volatile oil (soma), few alkaloids, proteins, fibre carbohydrate, Vitamin B-complex, traces of Iron, Calcium and Phosphorous (Thus, usage is essential to maintain proper balance of Dhatus in the body).

Medicinally, it is Anti-Oxidant, Stimulant, Aromatic, Digestive, Rasayana, Diuretic (Thus, good for Kidney related issues!), Anti-Coagulating agent (Thus, good for heart blockages!), Rejuvenates the Salivary Glands (Again, our morning saliva has the capacity to kill all the Un-wanted Foreign Microbials in the body) and the Sweat Glands.

Few Medicinal Benefits: 

  • Increasing Appetite, Suppressing distension:
  1. 1/4th teaspoon of black pepper + 1/4th white cumin seeds (Jeera), added to a glass of butter milk, taken ½ an hour before lunch.
  2. Morning empty stomach 2-3 balls of black pepper with honey.
  • Obesity – Excess Weight:                                                                                 Morning empty stomach 2-3 balls of black pepper with honey.
  • Cough & cold (running nose, headache, body ache):
  1. 1/4th teaspoon of black pepper + 1/4th teaspoon of turmeric, added to a glass of Desi Cow Milk (Or, Toned/Double Toned, as available). Boil the mixture for a minute or two, and drink it before going to sleep. Do it for 2-3 days,
  2. Morning empty stomach 2-3 balls of black pepper with honey.
  • Dental caries, Painful gums, Bad Breath:                                                         Take a pinch of Black Pepper and a pinch of Sendha Salt (only), and massage your gums.
  • Boils and other Skin Disorders (Stye-Abscess):                                                   Applied Externally as a Paste – or Pepper Poultice.
  • Night Blindness:
  1. Have a mixture of 1/4th – 1/5th teaspoon of Black Pepper + Honey, once or twice daily and/or Pepper Balls with Honey empty stomach Morning,
  2. Combination of Black Pepper, Rock Candy & Vedic Cow Ghee is a Beautiful Eye Tonic.
  • Pharyngitis:
  1. Use Black pepper Decoction for Gargles 3-4 times a day.
  2. Mix 1/4th – 1/5th (or lesser) teaspoon of Black Pepper to a teaspoon of Pure Desi Cow Ghee (Melted on a Hot spoon), and have it once or twice a day and/or
  3. Pepper Balls with Honey empty stomach Morning.
  • Circulatory System (And good Joints/Muscle Strength):                                           Add a Pinch of Black Pepper to a glass of hot water, and have it twice a day and/or Pepper Balls with Honey empty stomach Morning.

For all of the above cases you can simply chew 2 Balls of Black Pepper, empty stomach in the morning accompanied by 2-3 Tsp Pure-Organic Honey.

ContraIndications:

  1. If you have taken Black pepper in excess, Desi Cow Ghee (or normal Buffalo ghee) is an antidote and will relieve you,
  2. High doses may reduce ‘Vitality & The Drive’,
  3. This should be avoided in High Pitta Disorders.
